We also want to be sure that you use our fuel as safely as possible. Here are some practical tips to help you do just that.
Propane is odorless in its natural form, but manufacturers add an odorant — which smells similar to rotten eggs or a skunk’s spray — to help detect leaks. We also recommend that you install gas detectors, especially if anyone in your household has a reduced sense of smell. Remember, carbon monoxide detectors cannot detect propane gas, so both types of detectors are essential.
Properly functioning propane appliances should display a blue flame. Yellow flames or excess soot may indicate incomplete combustion and potential carbon monoxide risks. If you see these signs, contact Roberts Energy and an appliance technician immediately. Never use outdoor propane appliances like grills or portable generators indoors or in other enclosed spaces. Your propane range should only be used for cooking, not as a heat source.
Ensure that every adult in your home knows how to shut off the propane tank valve. If they don’t, contact us for assistance.
